Caterpillars go through an intensive process to evolve into a butterfly, lotus flowers emerge through muck until reaching the surface of the pond, and frogs begin their lives underwater as tadpoles before their lives on land. From the outside looking in, we see this as a natural progression of all living creatures. However, when applied to humans the whole story changes. We become shocked when life altering events occur, because of course, we are creatures of habit. But, change is good and necessary in order to grow.
One of the most difficult challenges we encounter as humans is letting go. Letting go of relationships, the past, our beliefs, judgment, opinions, fears, hopes, dreams, our youth, and sense of control (Oh my!). There are many moments in life that challenge all we know. We can try as hard as we want to fight against the current, but at some point we just have to let go and trust that the waves will bring us to shore. Unfortunately, there is no mathematical equation for this (the only time I would actually enjoy math). Yet, what I do know is that with time comes perspective. And through this new perspective we no longer see change as scary or painful, instead we see change as an opportunity to explore the metamorphosis of life. I have recently encountered resistance to change in my personal life through a multitude of overwhelming events. Yet, what keeps me grounded is knowing that all things are temporary and what ever you or I may be going through, it too shall pass.
