September 2020
The Student Spotlight of September is Gita Govahi! I have known Gita since I believe 2017. We met while I was teaching at a local studio and we instantly connected. She has practiced with me since then and has even attended my yoga retreats to Maui and San Luis Obispo. I wanted to highlight her this month because first off it is her birthday month and she has supported me during these challenging times by taking live classes with me several times a week. As a matter of fact, she has a total of 630 all time points for attending classes since she joined in July, which she can use to redeem free classes! Even though we aren't able to connect physically, I love seeing her smiling face through Zoom and wanted to share all about her journey through yoga. |
Here is a little Q+A with Gita:
Lauren : How long have you been practicing yoga?
Gita: I have been practicing yoga regularly since 2015.
Lauren: What drew you to THE STUDIO by Lauren?
Gita: In the years that I got to know you, you quickly became my favorite yoga instructor as you balanced the necessary, mind/body connection in the practice and I always came out of class feeling uplifted both physically and mentally. Also, the retreat to Hawaii two years ago ended up being one of the best trips of my entire life! You have a great ability to explain the connections between various movements and the impact on our body and mind. Understanding yoga and being mindful throughout the day is what extends the benefits of this practice and you are a natural at it!
Lauren: Wow! Thank you so much! You are so kind.
Lauren: How is your experience practicing yoga virtually so far?
Gita: I am happily surprised at how well the virtual yoga works. In fact I’d say that in some ways it is working better than in-person yoga classes. One of the reasons I stopped taking classes in person early this year was the fact that close proximity to others at times made me come down with flu like symptoms. I never enjoyed being that close physically to others in my yoga practice. Having the privacy in my own space at home provides me with the best of both worlds in that I have a great yoga instructor who monitors my every move and is able to give me more personal attention since there are only a few students in each class and it also provides a safe environment for my practice.
Lauren: I am glad to hear that practicing online is working so well for you.
Lauren: How has your yoga practice impacted your life?
Gita: I re-started my yoga practice only 3 weeks ago. Since then, I feel like a new person. In fact after my very first session going through the gentle morning yoga class, it truly felt like I had just been re-born again! It is amazing what one hour can do in reminding your whole body how it is supposed to operate! I stand up taller, I am lighter on my feet, I have more energy, I am sleeping better, I am happier throughout the day! Each and every one of these is a huge gift that cannot be taken for granted. I am so thankful to you for sharing your expertise and knowledge of yoga with such grace and care. You are making a great difference in the lives of many!
Lauren: Thank you so much for being apart of my online community. It wouldn’t be the same without you!
